Power Train Change

Unexpected Consequences

I knew cruising boats were NOT the best performance boats. The boat's most important aspect was safety, then comfort, and finally an ability to get one to the next destination under sail. With that in mind we wanted a feathering prop.

AutoProp seemed to fit the bill. One characteristic, a boat shaking vibration over 1300 rpms caused two things to be changed. First we needed more support in the shaft aft of the dead wood, and second the old engine mounts needed to be changed.

The vibration also caused quite a row on Cruisers forum and with the Propeller Manufactures. Eventually I ended up with a propeller designed for the boat not just the engine.

But while that was happening the Shaft Log was improved and I replaced all the engine mounts.
