This coast is not known for cruising. It is known for resonable effort for in maintaining or upgrading your yacht. To ply these waters safely traveling from marina to marina reduces any risk along this west coast of Malaysia.
Malaysian Rally While in general we are not rally people; when it makes the most sense we join. The Strait of Malacca is busy,busy and BUSY. Fisherman ply the coast using marked nets that do not show at night. There are underwater dangers along the coast and there have been some uncomfortable situations for yachties. We felt joining the rally would make traveling these waters much safer.
Johor: The rally began here at the eastern edge of Malaysia. And in close proximity to Singapore. We could easily travel back and forth to Singapore as tourist or to resupply any ships stores. Johor had great food, good supermarkets and a fullfiling big city experience.
Langkawi: Langkawi has a few marinas the cruisers congregate at. One in the center of the Kuah; Royal Langkawi Yacht club, Rebak Island Resort and Marina; on it's own island, and Telega tucked around the west said. Langkawi is a duty free port making the acquisition of supplies worth the time for boats to prepare for their trip north to Thailand or West towards Africa.
